More about fogging

What you need to know about fogging and what type of agent your provider should be using

With the Australian community doing exceptionally well in our efforts to flatten the COVID-19 curve and get ahead of the forthcoming Flu Season, cleaning practices have become and continue to play an essential role in our continued success. As lock-down restrictions begin to ease, now is the best time to ensure we are all at the top of our business’s sanitisation and disinfection game.

With many hyper-focused on increased hygiene practices and the cleaning market becoming flooded with new providers and products, it can be hard to decipher what is truly effective. Therefore, we want to share our 100+ years’ experience and dependable knowledge about ‘fogging’ and how it can help you keep your business safe now and into the future.

At Eaton Services Group, we want to ensure that when managing the wellbeing of your people and property, you are using the right fogging products for the right.

What is fogging?

Chemical fogging for cleaning is the process of applying chemical disinfectants, sanitisers or antibacterial solutions to your premise or business. The purpose is to create and disperse an aerosol to reduce the numbers of airborne micro-organisms and to apply disinfectant or sanitisation to surfaces that may be difficult to reach.

Fogging is not a replacement for routine cleaning; it is intended to be used as an added step in your cleaning schedule, designed to help further disinfect or sanitise a space.

How do I choose the right fogging solution?

Despite the thousands of clearly posted rules about useful hand washing techniques, all too often, people are just doing a “too quick” job of handwashing in restrooms, with some even not washing at all. This analogy is the same for many ‘fogging’ solutions that are available on the market. Some generic fogging methods:

  • Are only effective at the time of application.

  • Do not provide any ongoing protection against future contamination.

  • Are relatively untested against the long-term effect on equipment, furniture, and fabrics.

  • Contain high levels of alcohol.

  • They are not tested against a broad range of pathogens.

Routine liquid disinfectants and sanitisers only work when the surface is wet. Once the disinfectant or sanitiser is wiped off or dried, it is no longer capable of killing any further potentially harmful micro-organisms that recontaminate that surface. In fact, the surface can become contaminated to the same levels as before disinfection or sanitisation within 1 – 2 hours.

Therefore, antibacterial fogging with a specialised barrier protectant solution such as Zoono® Z-71 Microbe Shield has fast become a fogging agent of choice. With its long-lasting effects, our Zoono® fogging agent is an effective surface sanitising and barrier protectant mist. It coats surfaces, creating an antibacterial, durable barrier that lasts longer on surfaces (even with routine cleaning). The product is tested and certified for up to 99.9% effectiveness against a broad range of pathogens, including bacteria and germs.

What does this mean?

Available research suggests that the coronavirus and many others can survive on soft, porous surfaces (such as cardboard and fabrics) for up to 24 hours and hard surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel for up to 72 hours (three days). Therefore, it is essential to consider what options you have available when preparing your business for reoccupation and service after lock-down.

At Eaton Services Group, we have found best results and long-lasting protection are achieved when you include three simple, yet highly effective steps:
