Supporting Future Students - Somerville House 2024 Foundation Luncheon

On Friday, May 24, 2024, Eaton Services Group proudly attended and supported the Somerville House Foundation Luncheon at the beautiful Rivershed, Howard Smith Wharves in Brisbane. This annual event is a highlight for many in the Somerville House community, providing an opportunity to indulge in a spectacular day filled with inspiring stories, fantastic cuisine, and spirited auctions—all in support of raising funds for future students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience a Somerville House education.

Celebrating Milestones

This year's luncheon held even deeper significance as we celebrated two significant milestones: the 125th Anniversary of Somerville House and the 40th Anniversary of the Somerville House Foundation. These celebrations mark a long academic excellence and community spirit history, making the event even more memorable.

Inspiring Speakers and Engaging Auctions

We were honoured to hear from two distinguished guest speakers:

• Ms Beatrice Mahuru (Class of 1991), Founder and CEO of Gulen & Daughters

• Ms Jennifer Karlson, Vice President (Advancement & Community Engagement) from The University of Queensland

Their inspiring stories resonated deeply with the attendees, highlighting the profound impact that education and community support can have on individuals' lives.

In addition to the speeches, the luncheon featured several spirited auctions that added excitement and generosity to the day. The funds raised from these auctions contribute directly to the Somerville House Foundation Scholarships Fund, creating more opportunities for deserving students.

Eaton Services Group's Commitment

Representing Eaton Services Group at the event were our very own Steven (CEO) and Rita Tapsall (HR Manager). Their attendance demonstrated our continued commitment to supporting the Somerville House Foundation and its mission. Since establishing the Scholarship and Bursary Fund in 2003, the Somerville House Foundation has generously provided $1.4 million in scholarships, enriching the educational journeys of 37 deserving students. These scholarships are exclusively means-tested, ensuring financial assistance is directed toward students facing economic challenges.

Looking Forward

The annual Foundation Lunch is a day many in the Somerville House community eagerly anticipate, not only for the opportunity to connect but also to create a lasting impact. All proceeds from the event support the Somerville House Foundation Scholarships Fund.
