National Safe Work Month 2026

Safety Is Every Job, Every Day
Every October, National Safe Work Month shines a light on work health and safety (WHS) across Australia. At Eaton Services Group, safety isn’t something we only talk about in October. For our teams working across commercial cleaning and facility services, safety is part of every job, every shift and every site.
Our people work across education facilities, commercial offices, aged care and retirement living, medical facilities, industrial , manufacturing and logistics environments and community spaces. Each workplace is different, and so are the risks. That’s why taking the time to understand the environment, assess the task and work safely is part of how we operate every day.
Safe Work Is for Life - National Safe Work Month 2026
The theme for National Safe Work Month 2026 is Safe work is for life.
It’s a reminder that WHS is about more than preventing an incident today. It’s about protecting our team members and the communities we supports lives, health and future. Throughout October, National Safe Work Month our team will explore the four weekly focus areas:
Week One of National Safe Work Month reminds us that WHS is about more than policies and procedures - it’s about protecting our team, preventing harm and making sure everyone gets home safely, every day.
This week is also aligned to Queensland Mental Health Week (03-11 Oct) - an annual statewide initiative that encourages people across Queensland to connect, participate, and support positive mental health and wellbeing.
Week Two focuses on protecting both physical and psychological health by identifying workplace hazards, understanding their potential long-term impacts and taking practical steps to eliminate or minimise risks.
Week Three of National Safe Work Month focuses on the future, highlighting the long-term impact of workplace injury and illness and the importance of supporting recovery, return to work and adapting to emerging risks as the way we work changes.
The final week focuses on turning the month’s conversations into ongoing action, keeping WHS a priority throughout the year and continuing to create safer, healthier workplaces for everyone.
For our cleaning teams, these themes are reflected in the way we approach safety every day.
How We Put Safety into Practice
As a BSI triple-certified organisation, our approach to occupational health and safety is supported by established systems, training and procedures. Our teams are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to identify hazards, follow site requirements and carry out their cleaning and periodical works safely.
That includes:
Completing site inductions and understanding specific site requirements (as required)
Following safe work procedures and using appropriate PPE
Correctly handling cleaning products and equipment
Identifying hazards before and during a task
Using signage and controls to help protect people in the areas we’re working
Completing training and maintaining required site competencies
Speaking up when something changes or a potential risk is identified
Reporting incidents, hazards and near misses so they can be addressed
And importantly, safety isn’t just the responsibility of one person or one department - Everyone in our team has a role to play.
Safety Every Job, Every Day
Commercial cleaning can sometimes be viewed as routine, but our Eaton Services Group teams work in environments where conditions can change quickly. A walkway can become busy. A spill can appear. Equipment can require attention. A task may need to be completed differently because other people are using the space.
That’s why we encourage our people to stop, assess and make safe decisions - even when they’ve completed the same task many times before.
National Safe Work Month gives us a valuable opportunity to reinforce that message, but the conversation doesn’t stop when October ends. Because at Eaton's, safety isn’t seasonal. It’s part of how we look after our people, our customers and the communities we support.
Safety: every job, every day.
