National Safe Work Month

Safety: Every Job, Every Day – National Safe Work Month 2025

October is National Safe Work Month – a time when employers and workers across Australia come together to commit to creating safe and healthy workplaces. At Eaton Services Group, safety isn’t just something we talk about in October. It’s at the core of everything we do – every job, every day.

As a commercial cleaning and facility maintenance provider, our people work across diverse environments – schools, offices, aged care, and community spaces – where safety and wellbeing are critical. This year’s theme, safety: every job, every day, is a reminder that no matter the site, task, or team member, safety always needs to comes first.

How We Put Safety into Practice

Throughout October, Safe Work Australia is stepping through the risk assessment process weekly – and we’re proud to say that as a BSI triple-certified ISO accredited organisation, these principles guide our daily operations:

  • Week 1: Identify Hazards

Our supervisors and teams are trained to spot hazards early – from wet floors and chemical handling to trip hazards and site security. We don’t just rely on checklists; we encourage open communication so staff feel confident to report anything that doesn’t look right.

  • Week 2: Assess Risks

Once hazards are identified, our Site Supervisors and Operations team take the next step: assessing the potential risks. We ask, what could happen if someone is exposed? and how likely is it to occur? This ensures that every risk – whether physical or psychological – is given the right level of attention.

  • Week 3: Control Risks

Prevention is always better than cure. We use proven control measures like PPE, safe chemical storage, correct equipment handling, and clear signage to protect staff, clients, and visitors. Where risks can’t be eliminated, we minimise them as much as possible.

  • Week 4: Review Controls

Safety isn’t a set-and-forget process. We regularly review our procedures and controls to make sure they’re effective. Toolbox talks, refresher training, annual ISO accreditation audits and site inspections keep safety front of mind and ensure that nothing slips through the cracks.

Why National Safe Work Month Matters

The statistics speak volumes: in 2023 Safe Work advised that some 200 workers in Australia were fatally injured at work and there were 139,000 serious workers’ compensation claims made. While rates have fallen over the last decade, behind every number is a person, a family member, and a story – reminding us why safety can never be taken for granted.

No job should ever be unsafe. Every worker has the right to return home healthy and unharmed. That’s why we continue to invest in training, up to date equipment, and invite open conversations about safety across our teams.

Building a Culture of Safety

This October, we will be encouraging each of our teams and sites to take part in National Safe Work Month with a renewed focus on each of the weekly spotlights. Whether it’s a toolbox talk, a safety-focused team meeting, or quick catch up over morning tea, we hope these moments will help continue to reinforce that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

At Eaton's, we’re proud of the proactive steps our people take every single day to protect themselves, their teammates, and the communities we serve. Safety is not just compliance – it’s a culture we will continue to build upon.
